Inregdients for the Pie Filling.

For the Pie Filling you will need.

3 large cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced to about 1 cm thick or less
2 tablespoons of golden caster sugar.
75g or 3oz of unsalted butter.
25g or 1oz of caster sugar.
115g or 4oz of mixed dried fruit, such as sultanas, currants or raisins.
150ml or a quarter pint of dry cider.

The following are optional ingredients for toppings.

1 tablespoon of demerara sugar.
Double cream, clotted cream or custard.
Cooking Method

First Preheat your oven to 190°C or 375°F/Gas Mark 5.

Heat your pressure cooker gently and melt the butter.

Take the chunks of apple you have prepared, and all of the pie filling ingredients, and cook on high pressure for 4 minutes.

Release the pressure naturally. With stovetop cookers you may use the cold water release method if you are comfortable with that procedure.

To make the crumble, place the butter, flour and sugar in a bowl and work between your fingers until the mixture resembles soft breadcrumbs. Alternatively you can do this in a food processor, pulsing briefly until the same effect is achieved.

Fill a 1 litre ovenproof dish with the apple filling and then scatter the crumble mixture evenly on top.

Bake in the pre-heated oven for 30 minutes or until the crumble is crisp and browned.

Your apple crumble dish is now complete and can be served up immediately with the topping of your choice.
