As the gloomy, windswept month of January shudders to its natural, overcast and perpetually freezing conclusion, we thought it high time we bring a little bit of sunshine into your lives and give all your culinary explorers out there something to look forward to as 2016 fully makes itself known. So, get out your marker pens, flip open your calendar and make a note of these three unmissable food festivals happening in the UK this year…

Lichfield Food Festival 2016

What is it?  Celebration of all things foodie in a picturesque Midlands setting.

Where is it? Multiple venues, both indoor and outdoor, across the beautiful Cathedral city of Lichfield.

When is it?  Saturday 27 August –Sunday 28 August 2016.

Free Entry? Yep indeedy (for the main part at least – some events may incur a cost).

Back once again like a culinary renegade master, the Lichfield Food Festival returns following 2015’s well-received event. Held across several venues within the historic Staffordshire city’s unspoilt Georgian streets, this two day event promises a cavalcade of cookery demonstration, tasting events, artisanal fare and the finest of fresh produce from the region and beyond. Highlights include a highly charged and ultra-competitive Bake Off, Real Ale Trail and produce-packet market across the two days of the event.

BBC Good Food Show – Summer In The City 2016

What is it?  The second of auntie Beeb’s 10 annual BBC Good Food shows, with a distinctive summery focus.

Where is it? ExCeL, Royal Victoria Dock, 1 Western Gateway, London, E16 1XL.

When is it?  20 – 22 May 2016.

Free Entry?  A variety of admission options are available across the three days with the cheapest being the Value ticket at £19.50 (£20.50 Saturday). For further info, visit BBC Good Food’s box office site.

Kicking off summer in the capital is the BBC’s Good Food Show – Summer in the City, bringing a host of culinary delights to London’s ExCeL. Held over two days the event offers a smorgasbord of interviews, book signings and live demonstrations in the shows Supertheatre from top names like Gloucestershire chef Tom Kerridge, Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood and health food pioneers Hemsley and Hemsley. Other highlights include the Eat Well Show offering everything from professional dietary advice to produce from a wide range of suppliers and producers.

Leeds-Food-Festival

The Great British Food Festival – Harewood House 2016

What is it?  A celebration of the great and good of British food.

Where is it? Harewood House, Harewood, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS17 9LG.

When is it?  28 -30 May 2016.

Free Entry? Adult tickets are priced at £7.50 which includes free parking but full ticket details are available at the Great British Food Festival box office site.

Back in Yorkshire for another year, the Great British Food Festival at Harewood House is a foodies paradise. Take a 100 of Britain’s finest artisan producers, add in a huge helping of delicious fresh food and a dash of real ale and you’ve got a pretty good way to spend the May bank holiday weekend. Highlights include live music and the ever popular Men vs Food competition all set in the beautiful grounds of the 18th Century house.
