Today (17 March) is St Patrick’s Day and whilst the date is specifically an Irish celebration St Paddy’s furthering of Christianity across the emerald isle in the 5th century, it’s grown over the centuries into a worldwide event that every man and his dog (Shamrock Rover?) gets involved in. Many choose to celebrate by remembering some long-lost Irish heritage, donning a novelty Guinness hat, and having a good old-fashioned booze-up and so it’s with this in mind we bring you our rundown of Perfect St Patrick’s Day Cocktails…


Start with the traditional this St Paddy’s Day and ensure you enjoy the top ‘o the mornin’ with a shot of Irish cream. Simply chuck all the ingredients into a Tower blender and mix on high setting for 20-30 seconds, strain into an airtight container, and then chill in the fridge for a bit. Give it a shake before serving over ice with whipped cream on top, or in coffee after dinner.



Irish whiskey is regarded as amongst the finest in the world so we’d be doing it a disservice not to include a whiskey based beverage in a feature about the best Irish-tinged cocktails. This refreshing tipple comes courtesy of and is sure to pep you up if you’re flagging during your St Patrick’s Day celebrations.  Just add the whiskey and lime juice to a Collins tumbler filled to the brim with ice. Top up with the ginger ale, garnish with a lime and then slurp down whilst enjoying the craic.



Awash with lime juice and mint, this mojito-esque concoction (minus the rum) keeps the green flag flying, in terms of the colour of its ingredients at least. To start with, muddle mint leaves with simple syrup and add to a cocktail shaker with the lime juice. Next, splash in the Absolut vodka, give it a good shake, and then strain into a highball tumbler filled with ice. Top with soda, and garnish with a mint sprig.
