Flippin’ Marvelous: Our Top 5 Pancake Hacks
With Shrove Tuesday fast approaching, it’s nearly time to whip up some batter, arrange a selection of our chosen toppings and tuck into everyone’s favourite circular snack. Sometimes though, when faced with a table full of eagerly waiting pancake fans, rustling up a perfect stack of hotcakes can become a bit of a flippin’ nightmare.
So to make your Pancake Day go without a hitch, we’ve put together a list of our top five pancake hacks to make creating these delicious treats easier than ever.
No matter how careful you are, pancake making can be a messy business. But we’ve got good news for those of you that are fed up with cleaning up those inevitable batter drips that come from spooning your mixture into the pan. Transfer your freshly made pancake batter to a clean squeezy bottle and simply squeeze your batter straight into the pan for a quick and mess free pancake. This is also a great way to store your batter for later as you can pop the bottle into the fridge for up to 3 days for any post-Pancake Day cravings!
Shape it to Make It
This year, why not get creative by ditching the traditional circular pancake in favour of something a little different. Using metal cookie cutters to shape your pancake batter is a great way to add an extra special touch to your pancakes. Just lightly grease your cookie cutters with butter and place into a hot, non-stick pan like one of our Cerasure frying pans. Add your pancake batter into the cutters and fry for a few moments until browned on one side. Then, remove the cutter and carefully flip for pretty pancakes that the kids will love.
With a hungry pancake loving hoard to feed it might feel like you simply can’t flip quick enough. This year, why not save yourself some time and energy by swapping the frying pan for a sandwich toaster instead. Just lightly grease the plates with butter or margarine before filling the triangles with batter. We’ve all got our preferred way to top our pancakes, but what if we told you a fool proof way to turn those favourite toppings into a delicious filling? Add a layer of thick pancake batter into a preheated, nonstick pan and cook for around a minute before adding your chosen filling- chocolate spread, jam or peanut butter work particularly well for this. On top of your filling, add another layer of batter, cook until the underside is lightly browned and flip to cook the other side. You’ll end up with deliciously crisp batter on the outside and a gooey centre – a marriage made in pancake heaven!
If you’re dedicated to your healthy lifestyle but don’t want to miss out on Pancake Day, there are plenty of healthier alternatives that are just as tasty, but without the gym-guilt- best of all, you’ll only need 2 ingredients!
