Grape Ways to Enjoy Wine at a BBQ
With those Summer nights fast approaching and everyone getting ready to fire up those barbecues, we wanted to share with you some great tips on how to accompany a variety of delicious wines with your alfresco dining.
How to Make Wine Cocktails
The Star Gazer
1oz dark rum
½ oz vanilla bean syrup
½ oz pineapple juice
Garnish: lemon wedge
- Combine ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
- Shake and strain into a tall glass and finish with a lemon wedge.
Red Hot Summer
¾ Red Wine
¼ Lemon-lime soda
Garnish: Lime wheel
- Combine ingredients into a glass filled with ice.
- Stir and garnish with a lime wheel.
Strawberry Wine Spritzer
5oz of dry white wine
2oz soda water
1 tsp sugar
Slice of orange
- Mix together in a cocktail shaker.
- Shake and strain into a glass and garnish with a slice of orange.
Wine to Complement Different BBQ Foods
No matter what you are putting on the BBQ this summer, we wanted to share with you some of the ideal wines that will go perfectly with a variety of foods and let’s be honest, you can’t beat perfectly barbecued food washed down with a quality glass of wine.
Hearty red meats are best complemented by red wines, specifically Bordeaux, Cabernet and Shiraz, as each of these match the intensity of the flavours of the meat. These wines would be a great accompaniment to sausages, hamburgers, steak, ribs and kebabs.
For lighter, more delicate foods such as chicken, cheese and fish, a Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc would be the ideal pairing, providing you with a crisp, refreshing taste, deliciously infusing all of the flavours.
Chilled Summer Wine Choices
One of the best accompaniments to a beautiful summer evening is a chilled glass of red wine. Although usually served at room temperature, chilling light red wine is a seasonal affair with the cool chill emphasising the refreshing qualities of the wine. A bottle of Pinot Noir chilled for 20-30 minutes is a perfect example of a relaxing, chilled red wine suitable for entertaining friends and family, along with Beaujolais, which is also chilled to the perfect temperature after 30 minutes.
Pinot Grigio and Riesling are a fine example of the ideal chilled white wines. With citrus notes of fresh pear, lemon, apple, peach, apricot and honeysuckle, these wines complement a variety of meals whilst providing delicious taste.
